Beauty Tip
Have you seen the price of moisturizers these days?? Crazy right? Plus the good stuff is way more expensive than your supermarket brand and we justify buying it because..hello, it's for our face! Then we need separate moisturizer for our body, another for our elbows, knees and feet, yet another for rashes or really itchy spots, another that's just for fun, etc, etc...Do you think you have enough and at what cost?? Besides being overly expensive, most are laden with chemicals. Seriously, how many "parabens"-a synthetic preservative- do you need in one tiny jar of face cream??
At this point you might be asking, "what does a beauty tip have to do with real-food?" Well, this specific beauty tip is actually a food! And yes, it has everything to do with real-food (I also use it in cooking, but we'll talk about that later). It will save you money and perhaps even add a shelf back to your bathroom once you get rid of all those other products. I am talking about Coconut Oil, often called "the healthiest oil." Many people use mineral oil, vitamin E oil and even lotions containing oils as their primary moisturizer, but none I have found to work as well as coconut oil.
Over the course of several months we used up most of our moisturizer and lotions and started replacing it with coconut oil. As a result I have had several dry spots disappear and my legs have never been smoother-to which The Hubby compliments me regularly. I use coconut as my only moisturizer now and the best part is that I use one product for face, body, feet, extra dry areas, hair, and massages (gotta love when The Hubby offers to give me a massage). Not sure how much money I have saved, but I'm sure it's significant.
Here's the specifics if you are interested in how exactly to use this wonderful product:
-Face: A tiny bit rubbed into fingers and then smoothed on face...All day moisture, anti-microbial which means fewer break-outs.
-Body: A little dollop at a time rubbed into hands and smoothed over body, moisturizer extremely well, no re-applying. I also use it on skin irritations and rashes--most recently the littlest's diaper rash, took it away in a day.
-Head: Melt a few tablespoons and massage into scalp once a week. It soaks right into hair and scalp leaving healthier, softer and dandruff free hair.
