Why I Started a “Real-food” diet…Honestly
In my previous post I shared a little about my search to find a diet that would be sustainable. I tried many different ones and none I felt quite fit, mostly because I love food way to much! Ironically, I eat a very well-rounded diet; I love my vegetables just as much as my breads. I could crave triple chocolate cake and then eat a gigantic salad. A diet that cut out entire food groups was pretty much out of the question.
That being said, the honest truth about why I started a real-food diet, I wanted to LOSE weight!! I was 3 months post baby #2, second C-section and starting to think how to get the baby weight off. I was tired, constantly "Miss cranky-pants" and starting to feel the effects of a hormonal roller coaster. I spent my spare time-what little I had, researching (honestly it consumed me!). I finally settled on two different diet plans; "real-food" and another diet, which I will not waste your time with-basically my taste buds had the final say and "real-food" won.
I convinced my hubby this was the way to go and voila, I began planning and slowly converting our household into a real food house. We are still in the process of total conversion and honestly not sure if we will ever be 100%, but we can dream. So now to the REAL facts, 'cause I know you are all wondering did I actually lose any weight.
The Facts:
-I am now 8 mo. Post baby
-I have not altered physical activity
-I eat a lot of food
-I eat lots of beef, full-fat yogurt, full-fat cheese, full-fat milk, butter, eggs, bacon, coconut oil, and cream
-I have more energy
-Less stress and rarely "Miss cranky-pants"
-I don't have near the cravings for sweet, salty and all things chocolate
And finally drum roll please…I have lost 32lbs to date and still losing! Now, in all honesty some of that weight might have come off naturally the further away I am post-baby, but I would like to add that I lost all of that through eating food, not starving myself or counting calories or even watching what I ate. In fact I removed low-fat and non-fat and added full-fat! If you look at my list of foods that I eat a lot of, many people including doctors would place those foods in the anti-diet category and definitely not foods to consume when trying to lose weight.
So far, so good, real-food is working. Maybe you don't need to lose weight, but would you like to eat more food? How about full-fat yogurt and cheese, maybe you need more energy or less stress? If any of these sound good maybe it's time to start your own real-food experiment. Happy eating friends!!
